Best Universities for Mechanical Engineering in Canada. The graduate job market is hard, but as mechanical engineers use physics and math practices to design and produce the world’s mechanical devices, graduates tend to be in high demand worldwide. As a result, engineering has a great employment rate. New Brunswick and Manitoba have the highest job demand for Civil Engineers.

Mechanical engineering programs generally include mathematics, physical science, and design. They focus more on the practical application of engineering principles. In addition, universities in Canada provide students with co-op and internship opportunities to prepare them for working in the industry. Students from accredited programs are more likely to be hired by employers since a degree from an ABET-accredited program is required to become a licensed engineer.

Best Universities for Mechanical Engineering in Canada

Here are the best universities for mechanical engineering in Canada:

University of Waterloo

The University of Waterloo is a public university with its main location in Ontario, Canada. It is one of Canada’s largest educational institutions and a research centre. It offers programs such as mechanical design, including power, control, mechanics, and manufacturing. Eligibility depends on your Physics and Chemistry marks in grade 12, which makes it easier to get admission.

In addition, Waterloo allows students to participate in co-ops where they gain up to two years of valuable work experience. You’ll learn to lead large teams, solve problems, and develop innovations, applying them to real work experiences in internships and co-ops.

McMaster University

McMaster University is located in Ontario, Canada. It’s a public research university accepting domestic and international students and offering scholarship programs. It offers specialisations in advanced manufacturing, biomechanics, mechanics and designs, and thermo-fluid sciences. To enroll in this university, students must score at least 87% in their essential subjects.

You can choose from the four-year or co-op program where students can continue their internship. The Canadian Engineering Accreditation Board accredits McMaster’s program. The undergraduate program lasts four years, while the post-graduate program lasts two years.

University of Toronto

The University of Toronto is located in Toronto near Queen’s Park. Included in the Best 100 Universities of the World, this is one of the top choices for mechanical engineering students. This university has a program where students will learn about engineering principles in manufacturing machines such as automobiles and medical devices.

The program takes four years of coursework, including physics, risk assessment, sustainable energy, biomechanics, and thermodynamics. In addition, students can also take an optional year in the Professional Experience Year (PEY) co-op program. Finally, students participate in the Capstone design program in their final year of study. The undergraduate program lasts four years.

McGill University

McGill University is located in Montreal, Canada. It’s one of the top mechanical universities in Canada, with a long tradition of teaching and research in the engineering department. As well, McGill provides internships at top Canadian firms. Aerospace, energy, manufacturing, machinery, and transportation are the typical fields of study.

In addition, students can be members of the Robotics, Rocket Team, or SAE clubs as part of their extra-curricular activities. The University is also one of Canada’s few colleges that offer design and aeronautics programs.

University of Alberta

The University of Alberta, also known as U of A or UAlberta, is a public research university in Edmonton, Alberta. The University of Alberta is one of the top five Canadian universities offering over 200 and 500 programs to undergraduate and graduate students. Throughout the program, you will learn about solid mechanics, dynamics, fluid mechanics, thermodynamics, and design.

University of Alberta has the largest mechanical department in the country. It offers students participation in research programs and the Formula SAE Team. After finishing the program, students can participate in an 18-month paid internship.

University of British Columbia

The University of British Columbia is a public research university with campuses near Vancouver and Kelowna. Securing a place at the University of British Columbia is possible by achieving excellent grades and a remarkable profile. Therefore, only applicants with the best grades and personal profiles are selected for this program due to the limited number of spots available.

This university’s unique feature is that it offers a customisable course in mechanical engineering known as Mech 2, which lasts two years. This program allows students to take four courses throughout the year instead of six or seven per term. In addition, the final year of study allows you to select courses in engineering economics and data analysis, professional engineering practice and controls, and complementary studies.

University of Calgary

The University of Calgary is located in Alberta, Canada. It ranks among the world’s top 200 universities. It offers a variety of undergraduate programs. The University’s mechanical engineering program is part of the Schulich School of Engineering.

Students interested in studying mechanical engineering at the University of Calgary must gain admission to the Schulich School of Engineering. The course includes computing, engineering principles, applied physics, and mathematics. Students must present a GPA of at least 3.30.

Queen’s University

Queen’s University is located in Kingston, Ontario. This University’s mechanical engineering program gives students the foundational knowledge they need to work in the field. A machining center, which is very well equipped with CAD and CNC machines, is available to students from the second year onwards.

After completing the program’s second year, students can choose to stay in their general mechanical engineering studies program or specialise in biomechanical engineering or energy and fluid systems. In addition, Queen’s University offers 1-year and 2-year master’s programs in Mechanical Engineering.

Dalhousie University

Halifax, the easternmost city of Nova Scotia, is home to Dalhousie University. The Department of Mechanical Engineering offers a mechanical engineering program that provides students with a theoretical foundation and practical experience.

Students will learn to design machines and mechanisms such as cars, spacecraft, boats, bikes, and disk drives. In addition, students will gain hands-on experience, including machine shops and 3D printing robotics, and computer control. Applicants require a minimum GPA of 3.0/4.3, equivalent to a “B” average. The program with the co-op option lasts from four to five years.
