Tasmania is an island state of Australia. It is located 240 km to the south of the Australian mainland, separated from it by the Bass Strait. The archipelago contains the southernmost point of the Australian federation.

Tasmanian students will begin receiving their individual NAPLAN results from today, giving their families and hardworking educators the information they need to support students to achieve at school.

Results of the tests for the National Assessment Program are reported in a number of ways, including national reports, individual student reports, and school-level reporting on the My School website.

NAPLAN and NAP sample assessment results are reported on scales which show how students have performed compared to established standards. Assessment scales also allow achievement to be mapped as a student progresses through schooling, Tasmania – NAPLAN Results 2022

The state and territory NAPLAN trends – usually published at this time of year – have been delayed by national curriculum body ACARA until a full analysis of the impact of low participation rates is conducted, and are expected late in the year.

All students who participated in the NAPLAN tests receive an individual report of their results – and importantly, schools will be able to use the data to inform their teaching and to ensure students get the right support in the areas they need it most.

This year marked the first time students at most schools across the country sat the NAPLAN test online.

NAPLAN test results provide information on how students are performing in literacy and numeracy and support improvements in teaching and learning. The data from NAPLAN test results gives schools and systems the ability to measure their students’ achievements against national minimum standards and student performance in other states and territories.

Preliminary results for schools and students who completed NAPLAN online are provided in the student and school summary report (SSSR). View: How to interpret the SSSR (PDF 5 MB).

Reports on individual student performance are provided to all students and parents/carers by state and territory test administration authorities.

ACARA will publish full NAPLAN 2022 results in the final national report, which is expected to be published towards the end of the year. The interactive report will be updated with 2022 data when the final national report is released.

Results of the tests for the National Assessment Program are reported in a number of ways, including national reports, individual student reports, and school-level reporting on the My School website. See the Tasmania NAPLAN Results 2022 Release Date Here

NAPLAN Individual Student Reports provide information about what students know and have achieved in reading, writing, conventions of language and numeracy. The reports also provide information on how students have performed against the national average and the national minimum standards.

Tasmania NAP sample assessment results

After the NAP sample assessments have taken place, a public report is released providing a national overview of student performance against the relevant standards. The report provides an analysis of various findings across states and territories and student sub-groups, for example: the relative achievements of boys/girls; metropolitan students/rural students and Indigenous/non-Indigenous students.

A technical report is also released, which provides detailed information about the statistical and measurement methods and procedures used. This enables valid interpretations and transparent evaluations of the reported outcomes.

Individual student reports are not provided for NAP sample assessments. Participating schools receive a basic report about the performance of their students.

NAPLAN Last Year Results | NAPLAN 2021 Results

The 2021 NAPLAN National Report presents the results of the NAPLAN assessments undertaken in May 2021. NAPLAN was undertaken in dual mode (online and paper).

During transition years, online test results are equated with the paper tests. Results for both tests are reported on the same NAPLAN assessment scale. The report presents the combined results of both modes.

NAPLAN results are available for Year 3, 5, 7 and 9 students with results reported as mean scale score and in relation to the national minimum standard.

Results are reported nationally and by state or territory, by gender, Indigenous status, language background other than English status, geolocation, parental occupation and parental education at each year level and for each domain of the test. Information is also available about the cohort gain across year levels and the participation rates for each year level and each domain.

Education ministers made the decision to cancel NAPLAN in 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
As such, the following should be noted:

  1. There are no results available for 2020.
  2. Comparisons in the 2021 report are made between 2021 and 2019, and between 2021 and the base year.

NAPLAN results are also available as a PDF report for each calendar year in which testing was undertaken.

Comparisons and statistical significance

Comparisons are made between the current year and previous year, and between the current year and base year.

For reading, spelling, grammar and punctuation, and numeracy, the base year is 2008. For writing, the base year is 2011. Where comparisons of results are shown, a representation of the significance or nature of the difference is also provided.

Tables comparing results include a symbol to show whether the differences are significant. This information is based on outcomes of statistical significance tests.

Nature of the difference

To help interpret the results an effect size has been calculated for comparisons from 2013 on, with the outcome shown under the heading “nature of the difference”. Effect size is a measure for quantifying the extent of the difference between two groups. Effect sizes are only calculated if differences were tested as statistically significant.

Effect size measures in the time series complement the statistical tests of significance in the comparative achievement tables and focus on the magnitude of any difference. The effect size is reported as follows:

  • ‘substantially above/below’ refers to an effect size of greater than 0.50/less than -0.50
  • ‘above/below’ refers to an effect size between 0.20 and 0.50/between -0.20 and -0.50
  • ‘close to’ refers to an effect size of less than 0.20 but greater than -0.20
  • The appropriate keys are provided with each set of result
